All told, it ran 125 issues, ending in 2006. The combination was a success, with JLA quickly becoming one of DC’s bestselling titles. They also intentionally stacked the roster with DC’s “Big Seven” characters - Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman, the Flash, Green Lantern, Martian Manhunter, and Aquaman - all of whom had starred in the original Justice League comic. Sales had fallen, and DC’s hope was that attaching Morrison - who had established himself over the previous decade as one of the most inventive writers in the industry with legendary runs on Animal Man, Doom Patrol, and the graphic novel Arkham Asylum: A Serious House on Serious Earth - would breathe new life into the title. In 1997, Grant Morrison was given the task of reinvigorating DC Comics’ Justice League line.
